Fairhair and CABA collaborate on bringing the IoT to connected homes and intelligent buildings

Published on Friday 30 June 2017, by Tim Whitaker

The Fairhair Alliance, an organization of leading companies from the lighting, building automation, semiconductor and IT industries that aims to facilitate the Internet of Things (IoT) for commercial buildings, has established a reciprocal agreement with the Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA) to share information and work in a collaborative manner on issues relating to connected homes and intelligent buildings.

CABA is a global, not-for-profit industry association dedicated to the advancement of connected-home and intelligent-building technologies, supported by an international membership of over 330 organizations involved in the design, manufacture, installation and retailing of products and services relating to home and building automation. Public organizations, including utilities and government, are also members of CABA.

Fairhair is developing a set of technical specifications for a common IP-based infrastructure, based on open IEEE and IETF standards, and supports the uptake of these specifications by strong, well-established ecosystems such as BACnet, KNX and Zigbee. There is a strong fit with CABA, which encourages the development of industry standards and protocols, and is involved in a number of cross-industry initiatives.

The two organizations will share information on key topics related to bringing the IoT to connected homes and intelligent buildings, and will establish forums for timely and open exchange of information on current and planned activities, involving a broad array of stakeholders.

In April, Fairhair was represented by Mark Pacelle of Philips Lighting on the "Moving Interoperability Forward" panel, which was part of the CABA Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum (see Events).
